History

The Arcadian mining area is located in the Hancock, Michigan area. The Arcadian and Concord Mining Company explored the lode in 1864. The Arcadian Mining Company was organized in 1864 then in 1898 consolidated with other mines to become the Arcadian Copper Company in 1898. Between falling copper prices and the erratic production it eventually closed in 1903. It consisted of 7 mining shafts in the North east of the Isle Royale Lode with main production from 1899-1902. The Arcadian mines produced 4,806,141 pounds of copper. The town of Ripley was operating as the Arcadian Copper Mine Tour and was a popular tourist attraction in copper country.
